Svay Chrum High School is located in Svay Kangok Village in Svay Reang Province, which is 120 km from Phnom Penh very close to the border of Vietnam. The school is built on 3.8 hectares of land and consists of 9 buildings.
It was originally established in 1968, before the Khmer Rouge period. The school employs 118 teachers, of which 45 female, that teach 1,808 students, of which 999 girls.
Mr. Vichhay, IT teacher said “it will be easy to teach the students and more effective, as they now can engage in practical, hands-on learning. In the past, we had to study the theoretical lessons due to the school’s lack of computers and essential learning tools. As a teacher, I fully commit to provide a thorough guidance and consistent training to ensure that every student can use the computers proficiently. I will also strive to integrate these digital tools into daily lessons to enhance their understanding and practical skills, ultimately contributing to improved learning outcomes and better preparation for future academic and professional endeavours”
Pisey, girl, 16-year-old grade 11 expressed her feeling that “We are extremely grateful to have received these computers. They provide us with the opportunity to move beyond theoretical learning and gain practical ICT skills, which are essential for our education and future careers. We are eager to study diligently and make the most of these resources, viewing them as a valuable investment in our personal and professional development. These computers will help us build confidence, improve our digital literacy, and prepare us for future challenges in the workforce. We are motivated to apply the knowledge and skills we gain to achieve better opportunities, contribute positively to our community, and make the most of the support and generosity provided by our donors.”
Mr. Ham Sokha, the school principal, said: “I am deeply grateful to receive these computers, which address the school’s current shortage of essential learning resources. In the past, students’ learning was largely limited to theoretical lessons. I hereby pledge to utilize these computers effectively to enhance student learning outcomes and to ensure their proper care and maintenance”
